These were the first and last narrow-gauge (3-foot) steam locomotives bought by New England's Hoosac Tunnel & Wilmington Railroad. No. 1 "Readsboro" (top) a 0-4-4 type built by Baldwin in 1884, was eventually scrapped. No. 10 "Wilmington" a 2-8-0 type built by Grant in 1892, was later redesignated No. 12; it was sold to Cuba in 1916. Illustrations from 'Hoot Toot & Whistle' by Bernard R. Carman from the Shortline Railroad Series published by the Stephen Greene Press.
